Haven't "Made It" by 30? You're Not Behind (and Never Were)
For anyone who feels like they aren't where they thought they needed to be in life.
If, by the time you’re 30 years old, you haven’t:
Become a published author or an influencer
Sold your company for gazillions
Appeared on the Forbes 30 under 30 list
Got married
Bought a house
Found enlightenment
Made any “impact” in the world - a vague concept that we each define privately, then punish ourselves for not fulfilling.
You are not a failure. You are not irrelevant. You are not done yet…
We routinely fall short of a set of standards created by, and imposed on, ourselves — simply because society deems them worthy of acclaim.
There’s immense pressure to meet this narrow idea of success within an even narrower (and ridiculous) time frame. Countless opinions float around telling us what we “should” have done by the age of 30. If we haven’t “made it” by then…well, forget about it.
After just over 3 decades of my guest appearance here, I’ve learnt that life is too short to waste on people’s opinions, and too long to waste on my own.
Unshackling our own thoughts and self-judgement is notoriously difficult. Once we start to break free, we can perceive beyond the pageantry of the world.
Many conventionally successful or powerful people don’t have the most precious gift of all: peace of mind. They don’t sleep well at night and their thoughts are riddled with fears of losing all that they have accumulated, be it reputation, status, wealth or influence.
There are others who the world may discard as nobodies, if they saw them at all, and yet these people have full hearts, kindness and hope for humanity whilst serving with integrity in the best way they can. The impact of living in this way is to help infuse more harmony and love in a suffering world. But since it rarely comes with recognition, it’s often dismissed - when in truth, it’s the most beautiful way to win at life.
